Year-on-year growth for online retailers is beginning to slow as sales for March grew just 19 per cent, lower than the year before.
Month-on-month sales continued to grow up 9 per cent as online shopping continues to grow in popularity, according to the latest IMRG Capgemini e-retail Sales Index.
Capgemini UK head of consulting for retail Mike Petevinos said: “Online is proving to be a key battle ground for the retail sector during these tough times. Retailers that have developed their online offering have been able to reap the benefits of growing trade online and have also increased their influence over high street trading, as consumers turn to the internet to support their purchase decisions.”
Clothing, footwear and accessories continued to be the fastest growing sector up 26 per cent month-on-month and 26 per cent year-on-year.
