The jeweller will open seven concessions in El Corte Inglés stores at Seville, Marbella, Valencia, Zaragoza, Malaga and La Vaguada and Castellan in Madrid. The concessions will be about 750 sq ft (70 sq m).
Mikey, which was bought out of administration last year by a consortium led by former New Look director Alan Wood, has hired design agency Section D to create the concession. It has integrated lighting, storage, bespoke accessory holders, mirrors and signage. The new fittings are being tested at the Mikey concession in Dublin department store Clerys.
Mikey managing director Lisa Wood said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Mikey brand to harness the potential of the Spanish market. The brand has gone through some exciting changes, the results of which are coming to fruition.”
Mikey has five standalone stores in the UK and Ireland; at Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester. It has nine concessions at stores including Selfridges, Harrods and Topshop in London. The retailer has introduced new lines this year, including handbags, and launched a transactional web site.
Mikey started out as a concession at Topshop’s flagship store on London’s Oxford Street in 1989. It opened its first standalone outlet in London in 1997. It sells a range of fashion jewellery including necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, body jewellery, rings and belts.
Lisa Wood, wife of Alan Wood, became managing director after the consortium bought it out of administration.
