Fashion retailer Matthew Williamson will open a flagship store in New York early next year.

The 2,500 sq ft store at 413 West 14th Street will be the Baugur-backed designer and retailer’s first in the US.

Matthew Williamson, which launched its first store in London’s Bruton Street in 2004, will open the shop after a successful showing at New York fashion week.

Icelandic investor Baugur, which also owns and has investment in retailers including House of Fraser, Hamleys and Mosaic, acquired a minority stake in Matthew Williamson in 2006. The fashion brand was founded by Williamson and managing director Joseph Velosa in 1997.

Matthew Williamson said: “I am very excited to be opening my own store in New York. Each Matthew Williamson store is a very personal design opportunity to express my brand and I am really looking forward to working on this and making the store a reality over the coming months.”
