Marks & Spencer staff in the Republic of Ireland are to receive pay rises of up to 6.7 per cent according to the Irish Times.

The deal, agreed with trade union Mandate, will mean a 3.5 per cent pay hike, backdated to January 1, is paid to all staff as the the first phase of a national agreement.

Mandate said that the settlement betters the national wage deal agreed by social partners - an Irish body comprising representatives from government, public and private sectors - made last autumn.

The deal means wages for starter staff rise from Eur9.5 to Euro 10 per hour, an increase of 5 per cent. For staff with a year's experience, the rate will rise from Euro 10.44 per hour to Euro 11.2, a rise of 6.7 per cent and the rate for staff with three years service will be Eur12.5 per hour.
