Wynnstay Group plans to ramp up its Just for Pets retail brand and has instructed agent Salway Bradbury to search for suitable sites for new stores.

Wynnstay, which recently bought Midlands-based 10-strong pet superstore chain Wilson’s Pet Centres, is seeking to expand its portfolio by another 20 to 30 stores to compete against Pets at Home.

The Wilson’s Pet Centres stores are about 6,000 sq ft (555 sq m) and are located on retail parks mostly. Since the acquisition, the stores have been rebranded under the Just for Pets name.

There are 11 Just for Pets stores at present.

Wynnstay wants stores of between 3,500 and 8,000 sq ft (325 and 745 sq m), ideally within an hour and a half’s drive of the former Wilson’s headquarters at Bromsgrove near Birmingham, and located next to food retailers with on-site car parking.

Salway Bradbury director Ken Salway said: “We were first instructed by Wynnstay 18 months ago and, following the acquisition, we are now stepping up the search programme for them and will look at all types of properties.”
