Following two days of judging, under the chairmanship of Circus partner Dilys Maltby, categories for the seventh Retail Interiors Awards - and the stores to go in them - were decided early last week.

The process, which took longer than anticipated, owing to the twin frustrations of IT and a long discussion about the definition of shopfitting excellence, yielded a strong field of winners and finalists.

However, what was remarkable about the final decisions was the degree of unanimity. Almost all the winners were chosen by substantial majorities.

The next stage is the awards evening, which takes place in the ballroom at the Grosvenor House Hotel on October 28. A shortlist can be viewed at www.retailinteriorsawards.co.uk.
