German retailer Metro Group says it plans to benefit from the sustained economic boom in Turkey with the opening of 24 new Metro Cash & Carry, Real, Media Markt and Saturn stores by the end of 2012. Speaking in Istanbul, Metro Cash & Carry and Real Group chief executive Joël Saveuse said: “Turkey is seen as the most important growth market for Metro Group.” He said Metro’s expansion came in the wake of successful stabilisation efforts from the government. Since 2007 Metro has grown its net sales in Turkey by nearly 20% annually to E1.7bn (£1.5bn) in 2010.
