Oxford Street’s Christmas lights were switched on last night by pop star Robbie Williams.

Over 20,000 people gathered for the ceremony which took place outside of House of Fraser last night.

The lights, which are this year sponsored by Marmite, kickstarts the Christmas season on London’s busiest shopping street. 300,000 bulbs form this year’s light display.

Westminster City Council deputy leader Cllr Robert Davis said: “We fully support the prestigious, and hugely popular, Oxford Street Christmas lights event. This is a critical trading period for businesses across London’s West End, and we hope to see lots of festive shoppers visiting.”
 
Next Tuesday, November 13, Regent Street’s Christmas lights will be switched on, while its Bond Street’s turn on Thursday, November 22.
