No horse DNA has been found in the latest round of tests on processed meat products sold in UK stores, according to the BRC.
All minced beef products sold in the UK’s largest supermarkets have now been tested and 95% of lines in all BRC food member businesses as a whole.
No new positive results were found in tests conducted this week. Since testing began on January 20, 0.3% of products have been found to contain horse DNA.
British Retail Consortium food director Andrew Opie said: “The reassuring news is that another intensive week of testing has produced no new positive results. And, since this testing programme started in mid-January, just a third of 1% of products have tested positive. But our members won’t accept anything less than 100% compliance.
“We are working with the rest of the supply chain and with Government to prevent any incidents in the future.”
