JD.com has partnered with Ikea to launch its first flagship store

The partnership will see the Chinese ecommerce giant host more than 6,500 Ikea products on its online store, and fulfil a nationwide in-house delivery network for the retailer within the region.

The retailers said in a statement that the move “underscores both companies’ shared commitment to meeting China’s growing demand for personalised and diverse home living solutions,” and would offer shoppers a “one-stop, high-quality, cost-effective living solution”.

JD.com offers shoppers in China same and next-day delivery on millions of products, with 95% of orders fulfilled within 24 hours, and the new partnership would allow customers living beyond the footprint of an Ikea store the option of ordering their purchases online.

The online flagship will also feature product exclusives, and a “more immersive shopping experience”, including a 3D visualisation of products in homes using a mobile.

JD.com senior vice president and president of JD Retail appliance and home Yanzhong Yao said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ikea to JD.com. This collaboration not only expands our home category brand offerings, but also brings more inspiring and high-quality home shopping options to consumers. By leveraging JD.com’s expertise in supply chain management and digital operations, combined with Ikea’s extensive experience in home living, we’ll continue to enhance the online shopping experience for Chinese households.”

Ikea China president and chief sustainability officer Pontus Erntell said: “Since 2018, Ikea China has been steadily expanding our digital presence and strengthening the omnichannel development. The launch of Ikea JD flagship store marks another important milestone under our “Growth+” strategy, enabling us to enhance our accessibility to more Chinese families who value quality and service, and further enhance our omnichannel retail ecosystem. We are pleased to collaborate with JD.com to bring a more convenient and diverse home furnishing shopping experience, and to create a better everyday life to the many more families in China.”

JD.com already operates ecommerce partnerships with several global home brands including Muji, Hay and Le Creuset.
