Tamara Rajah MBE has joined Tesco as its new group managing director of healthcare

Tamara Rajah joins the grocery giant today as group managing director of healthcare, which will focus on “today and tomorrow for health, wellness and pharmacy”. She will also join Tesco’s UK leadership board.

A spokesperson for Tesco said Rajah’s appointment was part of the grocery giant ”bringing our healthcare teams together into one area, with clear leadership and a single focus”.

Before joining Tesco, Rajah spent over five years at Holland & Barrett, where she was group transformation officer and chief executive of the brand’s Wellness Solutions business between March 2024 and September 2025.

Rajah was also a partner at McKinsey & Co in the United States for over 10 years between 2004 and 2015, and has held several corporate and charity board positions, including as board director and chair of L&P Ventures, Nationwide Building Society, and Parkrun.

Rajah takes up her new role with the grocery giant at a time when Tesco is increasingly focusing on the health and wellbeing of its customers.

In February 2026, the grocer announced that it would be offering free blood pressure checks for customers at 350 Tesco Pharmacies across the country.

In June 2025, the grocer also announced that it would be pivoting its Accelerator Programme, aimed at helping start-up companies, to focus on health as its main driver.

At the time, Tesco said it was giving the programme a new focus because of the growing importance of health and wellbeing to its customers.

“We’re really excited to announce an increased focus on our health and wellness range as part of our Accelerator Programme,” Tesco innovation buying manager Helena Dennis told The Grocer at the time.

“We’re passionate about delivering products that give our customers affordable, easy-to-access, good-quality health and wellness products. These fresh brands further strengthen the incredible range we have in our stores. We can’t wait to see how customers respond to them.”
