Aldi is recruiting for 1,000 new store roles as it ramps up its new store openings programme before the end of the year.

The discounter supermarket which operates more than 1,050 stores and employs over 45,000 people, says it is now recruiting for a “wide range of store-level positions”, including store assistants, store cleaners and store apprentices, as well as “opportunities in management”.

The retailer said it offers “industry-leading pay”, with store assistants earning an hourly rate of £12.75 nationally, increasing to £13.66 an hour based on length of service and £14.05 an hour in London, rising to £14.35.

The discounter is also the only UK supermarket to offer staff paid breaks, which Aldi said is worth over £1,370 a year to store staff.

Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes said: “As we expand into new communities, we’re excited to bring even more people into the Aldi family.

“We’re proud to offer not only the best pay and benefits, but also a positive working environment and real opportunities for progression.”

With the latest Kantar grocery market share data set to be published tomorrow, Aldi is reportedly set to overtake Asda in terms of market share to become the UK’s third largest grocer.

The retailer’s ascent has been driven by strong sales growth of 8.2% year on year, and Aldi now says that seven in every 10 UK households now shop at Aldi.
