Go Outdoors chief operating officer Lee Bagnall is to leave the retailer.

The outdoors specialist is on the hunt for a retail director to replace Bagnall who leaves next month to become UK and Ireland managing director of furniture brand Stressless.

Go Outdoors expects to appoint its retail director as early as August.

Bagnall, who was formerly retail director at Bensons, has been at the retailer for four years. He previously held roles at B&Q and Wickes.

He has helped the outdoors specialist, which private equity firm 3i has a stake in, grow from seven stores to 40 at his time at the retailer. It opens its 40th store in Poole later this month.

He said: “In 2007, I joined an ambitious young company hungry to make its mark in the outdoor retail sector. But I’m not sure anyone could have predicted the pace of growth or level of Go Outdoors’ success.”

The new retail director will take on many of Bagnall’s responsibilities including setting the firm’s retail strategy.

Go Outdoors chief executive John Graham said: “Lee will leave us in an incredibly strong position. The board and I are, and will continue to be, eternally grateful for all that he has achieved.”
