Jessops has signed a “landmark” deal with Sainsbury’s, which will see it opening shops-in-shops within the grocer’s superstores.

The photography specialist opens its first within a Sainsbury’s store in Newport, South Wales today (October 8).

This will then be followed by Waterlooville in mid-December and Maidenhead in January.

Jessops chairman and Dragons’ Den TV star, Peter Jones said: “It is a natural next step for our multi-channel strategy, which is all about giving consumers the choice on how to buy.

“Our partnership with Sainsbury’s gives us the opportunity to extend our collect at store coverage, as well as bringing some unique new services to Sainsbury’s shoppers - like our plans for a ‘Junior Photography Club’ for under 18s which will be run by our own expert staff. ”

The new Jessops Photography Stores, will offer a range of the UK’s best-selling cameras and every customer who purchases a camera will receive a tutorial from Jessops staff.

The stores will feature photo-print services with instant print kiosks, large format printing and a photo lab, which offers 25 minute express prints.

It will also offer a one-hour print service on wall art and gifts and it will be able to take approved passport photos.

And it will sell camcorders and an accessory range, including lenses, bags and memory cards.

A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “We aim to make shopping easy and convenient for our customers. So we are pleased to offer them easy access to Jessops’ high quality products and services in our store in Newport, and in two more stores over the coming months.”

All supermarkets are understood to be currnetly eyeing partnerships with other retailers to fill space in big stores. Just this week Asda boss Andy Clarke hinted at forging partnerships with other retailers to give shoppers more reasons to visit.
