Danish furniture retailer Jysk is to open three new stores in the UK, ahead of a “significant roll out”.

The retailer, which launched in the UK four years ago, now has five stores in the country. It said it is on the hunt for suitable property in popular retail parks throughout the country to support its “major expansion”.

Jysk, which has close to 2000 stores across the world, admitted its opening programme in the UK has been slower than it initially planned however it insisted it remained committed to the country.

Jysk UK country manager Steve Stenhouse said: “Jysk is finding favour with British shoppers in some of the most challenging economic conditions and part of the reason for its success is its commitment to offering customers a good deal with good quality goods at low prices.”

Its three new stores will be its most southern step into the UK. The first new store will open in Swadlincote, Derbyshire at the end of September.

Jysk has a global turnover of €2.5bn.
