Foyles chairman Christopher Foyle and vice-chairman Bill Samuel are to step back from their executive roles at the beginning of next month.

Foyle will remain as chairman, but in a non-executive capacity. Samuels will become a non-executive director.

Foyles chief executive Sam Husain, who joined the company in May, will remain in his role.

Bob Burnett was appointed a non-executive director in January.

Foyle said: “Bill and I have spent the past eight and a half years working on turning the business around, but have increasingly taken a de facto non-executive role. With a strong senior management team and some of the best booksellers in the country, this seems the right time to hand over the day-to-day running of Foyles. With last year’s sales figures up 15 per cent on the previous year, the business could not be in better hands.”

Foyles opened a branch at St Pancras International earlier this year and will open a shop at Westfield’s White City site in London later this year.
