Bookseller Foyles has acquired Grant & Cutler, the largest foreign language bookshop in the UK.

Grant & Cutler, located on London’s Great Marlborough High Street currently, will move to Foyles’ flagship on Charing Cross Road on March 21.

The Grant & Cutler at Foyle’s department will be situated on the first floor. Grant & Cutler specialises in major Western European languages and Russian, but also covers all living languages, from Afrikaans to Zulu.

The majority of Grant & Cutler’s staff will relocate either to the newly expanded Foyles retail foreign languages department or to the commercial accounts division.

Former managing director of Grant & Cutler Stephen Cooper will assume managerial responsibility for the combined commercial accounts division.

Grant & Cutler’s website will continue to operate as a separate entity.

Foyles chief executive Sam Husain said: “We are delighted that Grant & Cutler has found a new home at Foyles and very much look forward to creating what will be the best and most extensive foreign languages bookselling business in the UK.

“We already welcome customers from all over the world to Foyles and will be able to offer them an unrivalled range of books.”

Foyles revealed last month that it will be relocating its flagship on Charing Cross Road in 2013 to a building occupied at present by the Central St Martin’s School of Art, just 15 yards down from its current location.
