Overnight, the United States of America and Iran announced they had reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire. Will a cessation of hostilities bring some much-needed relief to the sector?
While a ceasefire of two weeks is not the same thing as a lasting peace treaty, last night’s events are at least a step back from the brink of what could have happened. In an extraordinary day, President Donald Trump had earlier threatened that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran didn’t come to the table.
