DIY chain Wickes like-for–likes grew 0.6% in the 47 weeks to November 27 with turnover up 2.7%.

In the last eight weeks like-for-like turnover was up 4.2% which Wickes put down to customers buying ahead of the VAT increase.

Kitchen and bathrooms were top performers for the DIY chain with sales up 12.5%, helping to offset the shortfall in its core products sales which dropped 2.1%.

Parent company Travis Perkins expects the cold snap to have impacted sales in December although its outlook for the year as a whole remains unchanged.
