River Island will launch its 12-piece unisex childrenswear collection next month, shortly after launching its gender-neutral collaboration with designer Ashish.
The collection, which is primarily grey, black and white, will be priced between £12 and £28 and sized for children aged between five and 12 years old.
The collection marks River Island’s second foray into gender-neutral fashion this year following its tie-up with Ashish, which was unveiled in the summer and on sale last month.
Speaking to Retail Week about the collection, River Island’s customer director Josie Cartridge said: “Kidswear is a really relevant place to think about unisex clothing because that is where body shape is less different.
“We’ll market it as being good for both girls and boys – it is capturing a zeitgeist moment but it’s also highly practical.”
The fashion retailer’s kidswear design manager Rebecca Perry said: “Gone are the stereotypes, giving way to a modern, urban take on loungewear in this capsule collection that satisfies both genders.”
