JD Sports has confirmed it is in “advanced discussions” with Blacks Leisure over its offer to buy the outdoor retail group.

The retailer responded to press reports on its bid to buy Blacks Leisure, which operates Blacks and Millets.

Retail Week reported on Friday that JD Sports is thought to be the frontrunner to buy the struggling outdoors retailer Blacks with the deal likely to go-ahead today.

It is understood that JD will take on the bulk of the stores with the majority of jobs safeguarded.

Blacks Leisure revealed its intention to put itself into administration ahead of the sale last week following the submission of final offers to buy it.

JD faced stiff competition from rival Sports Direct to buy the outdoors specialist.
