Fashion retailer Fat Face is to shutter more stores on Boxing Day this year to give workers an extra day with their families at Christmas.

The retailer will close 40 stores this Boxing Day following a trial last year when it shut 10 shops on the day that heralds the start of retail’s post-Christmas Sales.

Last year Fat Face boss Anthony Thompson said he would extend the trial if it proved financially viable.

Fat Face will also close 210 of its 222 stores on New Year’s Day and will shut up shop at 2pm on Christmas Eve in order to prepare for the start of its Sale, according to Drapers.

Christmas price promise

Fat Face has once again vowed not to slash prices on Black Friday and in the run-up to Christmas.

Its price promise, which it launched last festive period, pledges to refund the difference on any items if Fat Face reduces its price before Christmas.

The retailer’s full price stance helped to boost sales last Christmas. In the 54 days to December 24 full-price sales jumped 7.9%.

Thompson said the introduction of the price promise helped to bring spend forward last year. It went into Sale with 22% less inventory.
