Womenswear chain Elvi has been put into administration and confirmed redundancies after the plus-size fashion specialist was hit by financial difficulties.

Jason Elliott and Gary Bell of Manchester-based Cowgill Holloway Business Recovery were today appointed as joint administrators.

Elliott said: “We are extremely positive about selling the business as a going concern and we will endeavour to preserve the employment of the remaining 340 staff who work for Elvi.”

He confirmed that 20 support staff at Elvi’s head office in Worcestershire had been made redundant.

“The majority of staff are still in place, but inevitably it has been necessary to make a very small number of redundancies. We are keen to agree a sale that will represent a long-term solution for the business and minimise the impact on individual employees and we anticipate interest from a number of parties.”

Elvi has 23 shops and over 50 concessions in department stores including Debenhams, House of Fraser and Beales.

The news comes almost a year to the day since it was rescued from administration by a mystery investor.
