Brits are expected to splurge in retail stores as football fever takes over and England’s women gear up to play Sweden in the Euro 2025 quarterfinals.
According to new data from cashback platform VoucherCodes, consumers are predicted to spend £78m in retail stores for the Women’s Euro 2025 quarterfinal matches in July.
The figures show £56.8m could be spent when England plays Sweden during the quarter-finals on July 17.
The cashback group tracked consumer behaviour from earlier tournament stages and has predicted new spending habits, with 7.6 million viewers planning to watch the football from home.
As a result, the grocery sector is predicted to take in £65.2m in sales from supermarkets and shoppers are forecast to splash out £3.4m on merchandise and £2.2m on decorations.
Other predictions include £4.5m on sportswear and £2.7m on electricals, according to VoucherCodes.
VoucherCodes senior commercial director Michael Brandy said: “The retail industry, and in particular the grocery sector, can look forward to a week of healthy sales.
“As excitement grows, so does spending, with the amount consumers spend per game set to increase from £11.3m during the group stage to £19.5m.”
The new data shows a drop in spending following England’s first match against France, when consumers were set to spend nearly £100m.
During the whole tournament, British shoppers are predicted to splash out £593.4m with retailers.
