Carphone Warehouse is launching a TV campaign tomorrow that will promote android sales through a 3D animated green character.

The character ‘Android’ will demonstrate some of the 150,000 apps available on the Google Android platform to show viewers how they can help with everyday life difficulties like giving directions.

The campaign is aimed at creating awareness, understanding and consideration of the Google Android platform. The smartphones to be shown in the commercial include the likes of HTC and Sony Ericsson.

The commercial will debut during the Arsenal v Manchester United FA Cup match on ITV tomorrow.

Other media to support the campaign includes press and digital activity and customised spots have also been rolled out for The Phone House in France and Spain.

This push towards Android sales follows the sales battle between rivals Apple and Google. Tesco Mobile reported this week that over the festive season, the iPhone was outselling Android handsets two-to-one. However, in February the tables turned, and Android handsets began overtaking Apple’s smartphone in terms of sales.

Tesco Mobile attributed the rise in Android sales down to the affordable cost and wide range of devices, using this operating system, available to customers.
