Following the launch of its trial Currys.digital store in Chelmsford (Retail Week, September 12), the electricals retailer is now also testing a 20,000 sq ft store in Swindon.
Currys managing director Peter Keenan said it would be the basis for the forthcoming 60,000 sq ft “J9” store in Birmingham, due to open in October and designed to take on US rival Best Buy.
The Swindon store incorporates white and brown goods and features a new in-store strapline, “Currys ask the experts”. It has 20 per cent more staff than a typical Currys of its size.
“We’ve taken the best ideas from the UK and overseas and put them into this store,” said Keenan.
