Inditex UK boss Dilip Patel is to take the reins of the Spanish fashion giant’s fledgling US business as the boss of its Italian arm Lorenzo Marcheselli takes over the UK.

Patel, who has been at the helm of Inditex’s UK business since 2009, is to join its US business, which has around 50 stores, in January.

The retailer is thought to view the US as a growth market and Patel’s performance in the UK is understood to have impressed the wider group.

Inditex’s core chain Zara recorded soaring profits in the UK in its last financial year. Pre-tax profits rocketed 22% to £19.3m in its year to January 31.

Marcheselli, who is understood to be working alongside Patel in the UK now, was previously retail country manager for Italy, where Inditex has over 300 stores.

Inditex, which has 5,700 stores worldwide, experienced a 29% EBITDA jump to €1.6bn in the six months to July 31, when global sales soared 17% to €7.2bn.
