According to the British Footwear Association, the EU has launched an investigation into the practice of sourcing from China and Vietnam after the number of shoes and boots imported from China increased by 46 per cent to 89 million pairs in the first half of this year, compared with the same period last year.
The investigation, which could last up to 15 months, may result in import tariffs being levied. It is understood that retailers, including Clarks, Marks & Spencer and Shoe Studio are lobbying the EU to halt the investigation.
