Asos is to open out its Marketplace to international sellers by the end of the year.

The site, which launched in November, currently enables UK-based designers, brands, individuals and independent retailers to sell clothing and accessories.

Asos Marketplace business development manager Katie Oldham said at a Manchester Fashion Network event on Tuesday that it had been “inundated” with international seller applications.

It is currently mulling whether its French, German and US sites would be linked into the international Marketplace.

Marketplace currently has 43 boutiques that account for 80% of the site’s sales. Asos said Marketplace was exceeding sales expectations. Since its launch it has had more than 1 million visitors and receives 50,000 hits a day.

This week Asos also launched its Fashion Finder site, showcasing the latest trends and including links to products from rival retailers that are not sold on its site.
