Hollywood actor to front M&S Christmas ads
Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas is expected to star in Marks & Spencer’s Christmas advertising. He will be joined by supermodels Twiggy and Erin O’Connor, who have fronted previous Marks & Spencer womenswear ads.

The ads mark a new turn for the retailer because Banderas is the first male star to appear in M&S's campaigns for at least two years. Banderas, whose previous films include The Mask of Zorro and Desperado, will front the ad, which focuses on both menswear and womenwear.

Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe will create the ad. The advertising agency was behind last year’s successful Christmas campaign that starred Dame Shirley Bassey singing a reworking of a Pink song with a visual Bond-style theme. Twiggy, O’Connor, Laura Bailey, Noémie Lenoir and Elizabeth Jagger also featured.

It is not yet clear whether Banderas, who began his career in theatre, will sing the ad’s theme song. Since his breakthrough in the early 1990s he has performed on Broadway as well as in the musical Evita.

Its advertising campaigns have played a crucial role in the retailer’s recovery since 2005. Its recent campaign, Your M&S, focused on its food and womenswear offer. M&S declined to comment.
