No minimalism here – Liberty London’s windows are a visual cocktail of Christmas, a place for shoppers to see and be seen.

There’s something mildly louche about shopping in Liberty – maybe it’s the arts and crafts heritage or perhaps it’s the curated nature of this relatively small department store, but the sense of being part of a select group is ever-present.

At this time of year (and for most of the other 10 months for that matter), the feeling of an oriental bazaar is almost a given.

Both elements are reflected in this year’s Christmas windows, where rather than going for the brightly lit minimalism that seems to characterise the efforts of so many, these are about visual overload. Everything bar the period kitchen sink seems to have been crammed in.

To add to the extravagant and decadent scenes, the mannequins look as if they have been plucked from a vintage cocktail party. In a city where good-looking Christmas windows are often the norm, these really do stand out.
