Zavvi’s website has been relaunched today and is selling sportswear, lingerie and perfume alongside the entertainment items traditionally associated with the now defunct retailer.

E-tailer The Hut bought the rights for the website from administrator Ernst & Young, as well as buying the million-plus database.

In a statement The Hut said: "Zavvi.co.uk will be driven by a major focus on delivering exceptional customer service and product availability at much lower price points than previously on offer."

Free delivery will be standard on all products sold on the Zavvi website.

The purchase will result in the creation of up to 100 jobs in the next 12 months at The Hut's head office in Northwich, Cheshire.

The Hut chief executive Matthew Moulding said: “Zavvi is a major player in entertainment retail, both in the UK and Ireland. Our aim is to capitalise on this well recognised high street brand and transform the business into a leading class online retailer, not only in entertainment, but also across lifestyle products. The new discounted price points, supported by significant future investment in customer driven functionality improvements, should enable us to create an exciting online retailer."

Zavvi collapsed into administration in December after struggling when its main supplier, Woolworths-owned EUK, hit the buffers the previous month.

Its former boss Simon Douglas bought seven stores out of administration last month and is rebranding them Head.

Last week Retail Week revealed that all of stores were taken on short-term leases, raising questions over its long-term plans.
