Zara tests out large-size tailored women's range

Fashion retailer Zara has launched a larger sized womenswear collection, which will cater for women up to size 18.

The store group has already produced a selection of tops in bigger sizes, but the new range is more formal.

The collection, which is being merchandised together in one or two sections in-store, is a tailored suiting range comprising dresses, jackets, skirts and trousers. It offers four suiting options and different fabrics, and is being piloted quietly in all shops this season as part of Zara's more upmarket Woman collection.

It is understood that the new range is being tested to cater for the more generous cut and fit sometimes needed for a more mature customer than Zara's standard shopper.

Zara, which has 500 stores across 30 countries, was named international retailer of the year at the Retail Week Awards earlier this week.
