Grocer X5 has recorded like-for-like sales up 13 per cent for the first quarter of 2009.

Consolidated net retail sales increased 46 per cent year on year to RUB63.09bn (£1.26bn). The grocer added 43 stores in the quarter including three hypermarkets, 38 discounters and two supermarkets.

X5 Retail Group chief executive Lev Khasis said: “X5’s first quarter sales performance demonstrates the resilience of our approach, supported by leading positions in major cities.”
