Work is about to begin on the second phase of Wilson Bowden Developments’ Ravenscraig redevelopment in Lanarkshire.

Wilson Bowden has appointed Richardsons Capital as joint developer on the new£600 million town centre, a redevelopment of the former Ravenscraig steelworks.

The town centre will feature 1 million sq ft (92,900 sq m) of retail and leisure facilities. Work is under way on Ravenscraig's£200 million first phase, which includes a sports facility, a college and housing.

Work is expected to last about three years. Ravenscraig will be served by a new railway station, bus station and car parking, with access from the M8 and M74.

North Lanarkshire Council approved the outline planning application for the Ravenscraig development in April 2003.
