Wilson Bowden has agreed a deal to develop the centre of Macclesfield with a 400,000 sq ft scheme.

The project has received the backing of Debenhams which has agreed to anchor the scheme with a 75,000 sq ft unit.

Wilson Bowden development manager Emma Newman said: “In terms of size, Macclesfield doesn’t have anything of the same scale as Debenhams. We are also receiving strong interest from a number of other national retailers that are not represented in Macclesfield.”

The deal between Wilson Bowden and Macclesfield Borough Council has been in the making since 2005, when the developers were nominated as the preferred partners.

The developer will now prepare the planning application for the scheme, which is due to be submitted in the spring. Construction is set to begin in 2009.
