US supermarket Whole Foods Market is considering launching its second UK store in London’s most affluent business district, Canary Wharf.

The retailer has been scouring London for a suitable location and is believed to see lucrative potential in east London’s Docklands business hub, which is both a home and workplace for thousands of cash-rich bankers.

The supermarket is also eyeing areas outside of London and has pinpointed Bristol and Manchester as possible locations for shops.

The supermarket, which prides itself on providing locally sourced products, is searching for stores sized between 35,000 sq ft and 40,000 sq ft, half the size of its flagship store, which opened at the former Barkers department store on London’s High Street Kensington in June.

The 80,000 sq ft store features an in-house bakery, a market hall of fresh fruit and vegetables, and meat and seafood areas. It also houses several catering outlets.

The shop opened to a fanfare in June with hordes of customers, as well as retail executives, but footfall is understood to have dropped off since.
