Waterstone’s operations director Alex Rayner has left with the business with immediate effect.

The bookseller said it has already begun the search for a replacement for Rayner who exited Waterstone’s yesterday.

Divisional manager south Roger Childs will take over as acting operations director in the meantime.

Rayner had been at Waterstone’s since 2008. She joined from health and beauty firm Transdermal Cosmetics and reported into managing director Dominic Myers, who was appointed in January.

It is not know if she left with a job to go to.

Kim Bedwell, south-west regional manager, has taken the role of acting divisional manager south.
