Like-for-like sales up 10.9 per cent last week
Like-for like sales were up at both the John Lewis department store chain and Waitrose supermarket division last week.

Overall, like-for-likes increased 10.9 per cent at the department store group.

Electricals and home technology continues to outperform other categories, with like-for-likes up 28.5 per cent at the chain.

The group said the performance of womenswear summer lines was also encouraging and sales in outdoor equipment had begun to rise as well.

Like-for-like sales at Waitrose were up 9 per cent for the week ending April 29. The supermarket chain said it enjoyed 'healthy growth' during the first summer bank holiday week.

The warmer weather helped boost sales of barbeque lines and chilled salads and wine sales performed particularly well on the back of the French Wine Showcase promotion.
