Walmart has indicated its willingness to partner with ‘kirana’ or traditional mom and pop stores in India

The retail giant showed interest to a ministerial panel, which is looking into foreign investment in multi-brand retail as a means to tame inflation. Walmart international president and chief executive Doug McMillon said: “Kirana stores will continue to be in India for generations. Walmart would continue to invest in the joint venture with Bharti, creating jobs and helping curb food inflation.”

There has been speculation that Walmart may be on the verge of forming another alliance, with Kishore Biyani-led Future Group. However, McMillon denied that there was any trouble with its existing venture, Bharti Walmart.
