Cull poised to take up non-retail role
Waitrose marketing director Christian Cull has resigned after securing a high-level marketing position outside the retail sector.

Following Cull's departure at the end of this month, Tony Solomons will be appointed to the new post of customer development director following a structural reshuffle of the marketing department. The move will become effective as of January 29.

Solomons joined John Lewis Partnership in 1982 and was made operations manager in 1988. In 1990 he became assistant to the director of trading (food) and moved to become Waitrose senior staff manager in 1991. He was appointed personnel director in 1995 and has been supply chain director since January 2005.

John Lewis Partnership chairman Sir Stuart Hampson said: 'Waitrose has ambitious development plans over the coming years. This new post will help to achieve these by strengthening our focus on customers' evolving expectations in all aspects of the way we develop the Waitrose business. I am delighted to appoint Tony to the role.'

Solomons said: 'The new post of customer development director will help to give us a new impetus in better understanding and meeting our customers' needs. I am looking forward to working with my new team and with my Waitrose management board colleagues to realise this aim.'
