Waitrose has reported its like-for-like sales for the 13 weeks to the end of April are up 3.4%.

The upmarket grocer said so far this year it has opened five core estate shops, one convenience shop and five franchise shops at Welcome Break sites. For the remainder of the year it will open ten further convenience stores, six core estate shops and one Welcome Break.

The figures contrast with Morrisons Q1 where like-for-likes were up just 0.8%. Sainsbury’s is due to report on Thursday.

This quarter Waitrose also benefitted from its Delia and Heston ads, and started its trial with Boots.

Total sales excluding petrol are up 11.6%.
