Home entertainment retailer launches digital downloads
Virgin Digital's download service went live today, three days before high street rival HMV enters the market.

Virgin Digital users can choose from either a pay-as-you-go service or monthly subscription, starting at£9.99, which allows unlimited downloads and access to a catalogue of more than 1 million tracks covering 19 different genres. Service features include internet radio, rip and burn software, music manager software and track sampling, all supported by an online ask the expert service.

Virgin Megastores UK marketing director Steven Kincaid said: 'We are launching Virgin Digital as the demand for quality downloads intensifies. With a strong music heritage behind us and a high profile on the high street, we believe Virgin has the best platform to launch a digital service that will become the ultimate download destination.'

Compatible with Windows Media Audio, all Virgin Digital downloads can be used with a range of portable music devices, including models from Samsung, Sony, Creative and iRiver.
