Robert Halley becomes chairman
Carrefour chairman Luc Vandevelde has resigned from the world's second-largest retailer and been replaced by Robert Halley.

His departure follows intense speculation about a falling out between Vandevelde and the Halley family, who are among Carrefour's leading shareholders.

Carrefour thanked Vandevelde and restated its confidence in chief executive Jose Luis Duran.

Implications of the Carrefour reshuffle for Change Capital, the private equity firm fronted by Vandevelde and funded by the Halleys, were unclear. However, a spokewoman for Change Capital said there was no reason to connect events in France to the firm.
