Bristol shopping centre Cabot Circus has reopened after being evacuated due to a security alert.

Shoppers at the 120-store centre were ordered to leave this afternoon at around 2pm.

The evacuation followed the shutting down of one of Oxford Street’s busiest stretches last week. Police cordoned off the area in front of Selfridges for a short period after a bomb scare on Thursday afternoon.

Cabot Circus Centre Director Kevin Duffy said: “There was a security alert at Cabot Circus this afternoon and as a result the Police have evacuated the main Cabot Circus shopping area as a safety precaution and are maintaining a cordon until the situation has been resolved.

“A Police investigation is underway and we will confirm further facts once available in conjunction with the Police.

“Public safety is our priority at this time.”

Retailers including Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, Apple, Hugo Boss, H&M and All Saints have stores at the centre.
