New Look, Mothercare and JJB Sports will open stores in the former Beatties department store in Birmingham following the redevelopment of the building.

Owner Redevco redeveloped the site on Corporation Street to offer 81,000 sq ft (7,525 sq m). New Look has secured a 40,000 sq ft (3,715 sq m) unit, Mothercare will take 16,000 sq ft (1,485 sq m) and JJB is to occupy a 25,000 sq ft (2,325 sq m) shop.

“Traditionally recognised as one of Birmingham’s prime shopping locations, in recent years Corporation Street has suffered from competition from the nearby Bullring,” said Stephen Proudley, director at Tushingham Moore, which is acting for the landlord jointly with Kitchen La Frenais Morgan. “We are confident that Redevco’s reconfiguration of Beatties will help revitalise this retailing location. Its plans have struck a chord with retailers demanding larger, cost-effective stores.”

CBRE advised New Look and Mothercare.
