Topps Tiles like-for-likes slumped 10.9 per cent in the 18 weeks to August 1 as declining consumer confidence continued to knock the retailer.

Total sales dropped 9.9 per cent. In the same period last year, like-for-likes decreased 8 per cent and total sales fell 3 per cent.

However the performance is an improvement on the previous seven weeks of trading, when like-for-likes dropped 11.9 per cent.

Topps Tiles trade from 312 stores in the UK.

Internationally, Topps Tiles has 13 stores in the Dutch market, but it has struggled in the country and closed 9 shops since the end of March.

The retailer said: “Although trading conditions in the first 18 weeks of our new financial year remain challenging, reflecting the ongoing weakness in consumer confidence, the Group is on track to meet management’s expectations for the full year.”
