Martin Toogood has retired from his role of non-executive director at Carpetright.

The former B&Q chief executive has been on Carpetright’s board since 2002.

Toogood was also executive chairman of the ill-fated Danish furniture chain Ilva, but left his role there in March last year. Ilva fell into administration in June this year.

Like-for-like sales at Carpetright were down 15.4 per cent in the 13 weeks to August 2 as the homewares sector continues to struggle through the economic downturn. However, Carpetright’s value range has been achieving double digit growth.
