Timberland is testing a new smaller store format, called Footwear Plus, on the King’s Road in London.

It is one of five global trials of the format, in which 85 per cent of product offered will be footwear. These will roll out internationally if successful.

The trial comes after the fashion brand reported a double-digit drop in sales in its third quarter and was forced to close 40 speciality retail stores.

The firm launched a transactional web site this month in tandem with a television ad campaign which will run throughout October.

Timberland has 20 stores in the UK and this accounts for more than half of its business in Europe.
