Thorntons has revealed a new-look pilot store that is designed to provide a more contemporary interior for its confectionery.

Its 450 sq ft Kingston upon Thames outlet is the first of five trial stores. Thorntons’ stores in Reading, Bluewater, Nottingham and Edinburgh will be remodelled and boast features including a chocolate waterfall, an LED-backed screen showcasing premium ranges and a new in-store colour palette.

Thorntons chief executive Mike Davies said: “We wanted to modernise the look of our stores and to showcase our many innovative new products.”

Separately, Lysanne McCallion, formerly head of Thorntons Direct, has been appointed retail director after Dominic Prendergast’s departure last week. Head of commercial sales Hannah Legg replaces McCallion.
